I love the way you describe the site and relate that to sculpture. Also relate to you getting the materials and starting with no idea of what you were going to do, but working with the practicalities of making a freestanding piece - something I struggle with, being s self-taught sculptor.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10210228793301600171noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-476314273936326181.post-14422980723802431232018-02-01T02:46:36.870-08:002018-02-01T02:46:36.870-08:00An intriguing new work. In order to develop and inform the context of my work I will be looking to discuss my ideas with other artists and key cultural organisations in England and Ireland. I will be using my exhibition at the European Commission in Dublin to kick start this dialogue were I will be creating the tangible links to deliver the desired outcomes. From this I hope to develop some collaborations were joint projects and exhibitions can be created using the theme of regeneration. I also want to add a European context to my thinking to inform my approach, hence my involvement with the European Commission. At a personal level I am interested in the historical and contemporary cultural relationship between England and Ireland. As both countries are in a economic down-turn I think that a cultural collaboration could an exciting way of been optimistic for the future, to inform new ideas and new thinking.Jonathan O'Deahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14644177572422738951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-476314273936326181.post-34431458992194204252012-12-07T01:58:39.679-08:002012-12-07T01:58:39.679-08:00Brilliant. The textures and composition of the Changing Spaces works stimulated not only my visual senses but also provoked a desire to touch the work in order to explore its various components. I was particularly struck by the contrast within each piece; monochrome and “quiet” backgrounds interrupted, sometimes brutally so, by the imposing structures of the objects Jonathan had sourced from the Lee Valley. I interpreted this as though the calm surroundings (nature) had had its tranquility and natural order shattered by the found objects (man-made materials/industry).

I was particularly drawn to the works Deconstructured Landscape 1 and 2 which consist of painted, white wood chips arranged, in what appears to be a gravity defying arrangement, against a black background. Alongside the obvious colour contrast these pieces, again, suggest a disruption of order and peace. However, I didn’t interpret this disorder as necessarily being violent or brutal but more of a reflection of movement and the passing of time. The way the wood chip has been layered almost looks like they were thrown from a box and their movement has been captured mid-air, like fragments of time, thus capturing the concept of change and portraying it in a very tangible outcome.
Michelle Dousthttp://www.behance.net/michelledoustnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-476314273936326181.post-88976906028452465632012-06-22T05:25:26.314-07:002012-06-22T05:25:26.314-07:00Congratulations on the exhibition, Jonathan.

I suppose someone has to make the obvious pun about barking up the wrong tree so it might as well be me. However, I think your philosophical approach and your adaptability when faced with an apparently insuperable problem is testimony to your professionalism. And actually, this cloud does appear to have a silver lining. I think the solution you propose is even more in keeping with the thinking behind your installation in that it reflects man's intervention in nature and also how nature finds its own way back. This seems a perfect response to the history of the Lee Valley, from nature, through industrialisation and back to nature again.

By the way, I've remembered what it is your most recent pieces you showed me evoke. Nearly every piece of material used has been deconstruction in some way. Through out the history of these 2 landscapes you have see construction, and equally deconstruction and back to construction. My approach to this project was pretty much the same to reflect the idea of regeneration, turning something old into some thing new.Jonathan O'Deahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14644177572422738951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-476314273936326181.post-45063973980464105392012-04-30T00:42:51.219-07:002012-04-30T00:42:51.219-07:00Hi Tim
